Canvas won the procurement this spring – what has happened since then?

The agreement and the Data Processing Agreement (DPA) have been signed by the administrative manager Susanne Kristensson. The new agreement came into effect on October 1st, and the transition has gone smoothly. Everything has worked as it should, without any noticeable problems.

How long is the agreement valid?

The agreement is for four years, with the possibility to extend it one year at a time, up to a total of 12 years. This means that Lund University is committed for at least four years but can use Canvas until 2036.

Does the agreement affect any other systems?

Yes, we have also extended the agreement for Canvas Studio, a video tool included in Canvas.

What does the extended agreement mean for teaching staff?

The extension means security. It takes time to build well-structured and pedagogical courses in a learning platform. Now teachers know that there will be no system change in the near future, making it a good time to take training and deepen their knowledge in Canvas.

What does it mean for students?

For students, the agreement also means security. They do not need to start each new course by learning a new system but can focus on the course content directly.

Canvas is available at more institutions – a common platform

Canvas is used by 32 institutions in Sweden, and many students and teachers move between different universities. This makes Canvas a familiar tool, which facilitates everyone. The Canvas management group also works to develop the platform with new features and is active in the national network and collaboration with Instructure. Integrating new systems into Canvas is easy, but there are challenges such as financing, management, support, and complying with legislation.
