Who is TorTalk for?
TorTalk is a speech synthesis programme that you can install on your computer or download to your mobile phone. The strength of TorTalk is that it can read all kinds of text – even locked PDFs and image text.
Lund University has a campus license for TorTalk which applies to all students and employees. Many people with dyslexia, ADHD or a first language other than Swedish feel that they are helped by using TorTalk. You do not need to have special needs to use TorTalk through the University, it is free for all!
Functions in the app
Just like the computer version, you can choose the desired voice, language and speed of speech. You can also adjust the speed as you listen and have images and locked documents read aloud. A new feature in the app is that you can photograph a text with your phone and have the text read aloud straight away. The app is available for both iPhone/iPad and Android devices.
Install the app
You install the app first, then activate it. Lund University renews the license annually. In January each year, you will need to activate the license again. You do this in the same way as the first activation.
Lund University Library has a guide for reading and writing support, in it you will find a detailed description of how to download the app.
